Towards Sustainable Mining and Healthier Lives in Dhanbad is a participatory study documenting the experiences of communities living near BCCL’s Gondudih Kusunda Colliery, in Kharikabad (Ward 14) and Alkusa (Ward 12). Through focus group discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews, the study examines gaps in regulatory compliance, health infrastructure and the use of DMF resources to address community needs.
The report highlights the importance of strengthening accountability and ensuring that DMF resources address air pollution and the broader health and well-being of mining-affected communities.
By combining regulatory approaches with community perspectives, the study shows how environmental decision-making can become more responsive to local needs and priorities.
