A Multilingual Rap Album on the Climate Crisis by Independent Indian Artists
In the Aravalli hills, where the ridge that has shaped Delhi’s climate for centuries is being quietly worn down, Naveen writes about what disappears when a hill disappears. Nearly two thousand kilometres south, the Sollisai Sisters count what’s been lost through floods that didn’t have to happen. In Maharashtra, Devanshi finds her own entry point into the same crisis. And somewhere in a verse about soil, an artist named Gamak lets the ground itself narrate what has been done to it, from discovery to destruction.
These are not six separate songs about the same headline. They are six artists, in six regional languages, describing a crisis from the inside of their own communities. Together, they make up the Climate Emergency Mixtape, a project built by Youth Ki Awaaz, Kraantinari, Asar, Folksoul and the Climate Culture Collective, out of a simple bet: that hip-hop, a form born from protest and truth-telling, might reach people that a climate report never will.
What Are We Building?
A first-of-its-kind multilingual climate rap album from India — geographically and thematically as diverse as the crisis itself.
A cultural moment, not just a release — timed to reach global and domestic audiences
A platform for frontline voices, told in the words of the artists who carry them.
