We have been operating in Kerala through a network of partner organisations and individuals to actively promote climate action and sustainable development through engagement in different focus areas since 2021. Asar is deeply involved in a range of climate action initiatives throughout Kerala, concentrating on climate resilience, energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, and decentralised waste management, to name a few.

Impact

Conducted district-level workshops on Climate Resilience and Energy Efficiency in the Agriculture sector (CREEA), supported by the Energy Management Centre, Kerala. These workshops brought together the the Department of Power and the Department of Agriculture Development & Farmers' Welfare, Government of Kerala, along with around 20 key departments and government agencies, engaging approximately 2,000 participants.

Collaborated with EQUINOCT on an initiative in Ernakulam district to build resilience against  tidal flooding, using community-sourced data for effective flood forecasting. The work continues to work closely with all the local and state government departments as well as the elected representatives and community to address a climate plan that is aligned with the needs of different stakeholders.

Working with TAPCo on a pilot project that demonstrates hyperlocal weather nowcasting with crop advisory, creating a regional agricultural calendar that incorporates local native and scientific knowledge. This programme now has a local information center for others to visit and learn from. This monsoon in Kerala, the forecasting helped farmers better plan their crop cycles.

Conducted climate leadership programs with Sustera since 2022, training and equipping youth to establish a network of young leaders empowered to take climate action.
