Conference of Panchayats: How Jharkhand’s Villages Are Leading Climate Action

Empowering Gram Panchayats for Climate Resilience

What if climate action truly began at the grassroots level?

The Conference of Panchayats (CoP) in Jharkhand answers this by putting rural communities and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) at the heart of climate governance. Co-hosted by PDAG and Asar, this people-first initiative draws inspiration from the global Conference of Parties (COP) but flips the script—prioritizing local voices, local realities, and local solutions.

Key Outcomes of CoP:

  • Elevating community perspectives in climate dialogues
  • Enabling PRIs to lead climate action planning and implementation
  • Using field experiences to design effective adaptation strategies
  • Exploring funding options for climate-resilient rural development

More than a conference, CoP is a movement to build empowered, climate-resilient communities from the ground up.
