Virat Singh is a Communications and Media professional with over two decades of experience. As the Head of Communications at Asar for the past five years, he leads strategic initiatives focused on air pollution and climate change.
Prior to joining Asar, Virat spent 14 years as a journalist with leading Mumbai-based newspapers, where he wrote on a wide range of topics including wildlife, environment, road safety, and urban transportation. His work in journalism shaped his understanding of how clear, strategic communication can strengthen public engagement on environmental issues.
Over the past decade, Virat has conducted workshops for wildlife organisations and State Forest departments across India and internationally. His sessions for forest officials and conservation practitioners focus on building effective media engagement skills, while his workshops for journalists aim to encourage sensitive and science-based reporting on human-wildlife interactions.
Virat is a member of the IUCN SSC Human-Wildlife Conflict & Coexistence Specialist Group and serves as visiting faculty at media schools in Mumbai, where he mentors students in environmental journalism and strategic communication.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and a Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from Mumbai University. Outside of work, Virat enjoys cinema, photography, and spending quality time with his daughter.
