From Belem to Nagpur: Local Climate Action in Maharashtra
As the world looks ahead to COP30 in Belem, Brazil, Maharashtra is already demonstrating how local governance can turn climate goals into community-led action.
The Conference of Panchayats on Climate Action, held in Nagpur, brought together government officials, Sarpanches, community leaders, and climate experts to discuss how Gram Panchayats can lead India’s transition towards resilience and sustainability.
Organised in partnership with the State Climate Action Cell (Department of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Maharashtra) and Asar, this first divisional-level CoP showcased practical local strategies to:
- ✅ Strengthen rural climate resilience
- ⚡ Accelerate renewable energy adoption
- 🌾 Promote sustainable livelihoods
By creating space for dialogue and collaboration between local and state actors, the event highlighted how climate action starts locally — in villages, communities, and panchayats across India.
📽️ Watch the highlights to hear directly from on-ground leaders driving change in Maharashtra’s villages.
✊ Because real climate solutions don’t just emerge from global conferences — they begin in communities that act.
